Paphos

Transportation in Paphos

Paphos is not a large town, but it is a bit spread out. You could easily walk around, use the local bus services or hire a car if you would like to get up to the Troodos mountains, etc. You could also hire a taxi, or else there are plenty of travel agents who organise tours to places of tourist interest in Paphos.

Transport in the villages of Paphos is of a more sedate four-legged variety - the donkey! They make for a wonderful sight, almost summing up the easy-going pace of village life here.

Paphos Transportation Guide

By Air

Paphos is only a small town, however it has its own airport. Mostly European tourists who come in by charter flights or packaged tours fly direct into Pathos. Tel: (06) 236 833

By Sea

Although Pathos has a beautiful and picturesque harbour, regular shipping lines do not dock here (they head straight to Limassol).

By Bus

The KEMEK bus lines connect Paphos with all the island's main centres (Limassol, Larnaca and Nicosia).

Getting Around Town

Bus
The best deal around Paphos is the local bus. Most are air conditioned and most of the drivers are helpful. Buses do not always run on a schedule, but eventually one will show up! There are only a limited amount of routes, so it is not hard to get around. From Paphos to Coral bay is the Bus Number 10 or 15. This is especially a good option if you are quite a way out from the Town and Harbour. In Paphos you will have to pay the driver and it is almost the same price of about 70 cents to go anywhere, whether it is for the next stop or five. This works out as a more economical option for those on a budget.

Car
To get around Paphos, you could even rent a car. To rent a car cheaply, you need to be over 21 years of age, but then again, there is the obvious red numberplate of the hire car. The local drivers tend not to like the tourist drivers. And during the night, God help you drive through Kato Paphos, where the traffic gives London a run for its money. So, if you are not too confident about driving here, it may be best to book a cab.

Cyprus drives on the left. This is due to the heavy British influence of the island. This is ideal for UK and Japanese drivers but may be confusing for European of American drivers as most of the rest of the Mediterranean drives on the right.

Taxi
Taxi are expensive in Paphos and drivers tend to charge an extra dollar or two here and there. The cheapest taxis in Coral Bay are from the Coral Beach Taxi Company. They are consistently about two dollars less expensive than all the others, though sometimes you might have to help with directions.
